At entry level, we want our events to be fun. Whether it’s a “fun run” or an Olympic qualifier, we want every participant to enjoy their experience and to walk away with a smile on their face. There’s a time and place for serious competition, but there’s also a time and place for beer gardens and finisher medals.
High Performance Movement brings the COMMUNITY together
Community is core to everything we do. We’re members of this community, and we strive to be actively involved. Our experiences bring people together and empower our participants to come out and try something new. Even at the partnership level, we work with partners big and small to ensure their events are unique, memorable, and successful, regardless of whether or not we manage them.
PETE HESS, Co-Founder
A track star from the University of Maryland, Pete gained experience as a coach at Temple University, as the Nike Run Club lead at MKTG in New York City, and managing his own personal coaching/training practice. Pete continued his coaching when he moved to San Diego in 2011, all while personally training alongside two-time Olympian, Alice Schmidt (Pete fact: has a 4:06 one mile personal best!). In 2013, Pete entered event management by managing the first Olympic-level professional track meet held in San Diego in over 25 years. The success and experience of this event led him to partner with Eric Marenburg to launch High Performance Movement. Pete wears many hats, but you will most often find him leading marketing strategy, operational planning/strategy efforts.
ERIC MARENBURG, Co-Founder
A walk-on cross country/track & field athlete at the University of Maryland, Eric spent over 6 years as a consultant for Accenture. After realizing that being a ‘road warrior’ and living in San Diego didn’t add up, he joined Active.com, the leader in online event registration. In 2013, he took the leap and, alongside Pete Hess started High Performance Movement. While typically wearing many hats, Eric can most often be found leading sales, sponsorship, and finance efforts for High Performance Movement. He is also the ‘office runner’, with 6 marathons under his belt and a PR of 2:39.53 at the Boston Marathon.
HEATHER PEARL, Operations Manager
A social runner from the great state of New York, Heather graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Minor in Communication. Heather’s passion for running started in junior high school when she joined the track team on a whim. Flash forward 15+ years and she’s competed in races of all distances, including six marathons. Heather fun fact: She even co-founded a social running club in San Diego with her friend. Her love for running fueled her interest to leave a career in Social Sports Marketing and transition to the Operation side of local running events. With dozens of races on her bucket list, she’s always running around San Diego–Be sure to say, “Hi!” if you see her.
KYLE MELLOR, Corporate Sales Manager
A multi-sport high-school athlete from the Philadelphia area, Kyle played Division III lacrosse at Gettysburg College before transferring to the University of Delaware. Shortly after attaining his B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, Kyle decided to move to San Diego, well, just because. Combining his passions for the sporting world and large hospitality events, Kyle quickly found himself in the perfect industry. Kyle’s primary objectives are to develop corporate relationships across all HP Movement events. Kyle Fun Fact: he travels every opportunity he gets, with currently 28 countries under his belt.
